I love this girl. Anne Van Veelen. She's pretty fabulous. She's crazy like me and likes to stay up all night to "study." I haven't met anyone else at Judson who will actually stay up the whole night with me. We have basically made our floor's lounge our room. We both love ice cream, and eat too much at McDonald's. Bad news though....she has to go back to her homeland. It's kinda far. Mom, want to take a trip to the Netherlands sometime soon? :) Anyway, just wanted to tell all my blog readers (if I still have any after this long absence) that this girl is amazing. And if you'll pardon me, we have to finish finals up. So off to the lounge I go. Pizza, ice cream, and afore-mentioned friend=another really late night. And I love it.

Wow.

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

So very tired.
Last night I got approximately 1.5 hours of sleep. Night before that I accidentally slept in, but the night before that I got two hours of sleep. It's only a matter of time before I develop permanent bags under my eyes.Tuesday, April 06, 2010
Pride
We are supposed to be clothed in humility. If that is so, then how much are you wearing? Although, I know at times I have been guilty of wearing next to nothing!
After Easter, it is hard not to be humbled by the Cross and God's love for us. Yet, it seems like it is quickly lost. His love for us is quickly taken for granted once Monday rolls around. We are NOTHING without Him.
From the outset of the day, I want to greet my Savior with gratitude, not grumbling. ::CJ Mahaney::

Joy
~Theophane Venard
Joy is not the absence of suffering. It is the presence of God.
~Robert Schuller
When you have become penetrated with the joy of God, all of your sorrows will turn into joy, all of your trials will be graces; you will recognize your faults, you will be sorry for them, and they will be forgiven so that they may become happy faults. They will remind you only of the goodness, the tenderness, the joy with which God forgives them.
Happiness depends on happenings; joy depends on Christ.

Hebrews 10:17, 22-24
What a beautiful visual!! Our hearts, full of all of our sins and errors and sprinkled clean and our very bodies are washed pure with water. We are pure through Christ. Isn't that such a beautiful thing?!
All of our sins are washed away in that beautiful water that Christ pours onto us.

Broken Chains
Chains be broken
Lives be healed
Eyes be opened
Christ is revealed
I have decided
I have resolved
To wait upon You Lord
My rock and Redeemer
Shield and reward
I'll wait upon You Lord
As surely as the sun will rise
You'll come to us
Certain as the dawn appears
You'll come
Let Your glory fall as You respond to us
Spirit rain
Flood into our thirsty hearts again
You'll come
You'll come
We are not shaken
We are not moved
We wait upon You Lord
Mighty deliverer
Triumph and truth
We wait upon You Lord
As surely as the sun will rise
You'll come to us
Certain as Your word endures
You'll come
Let Your glory fall as You respond to us
Spirit rain
Flood into our thirsty hearts again
You'll come
You'll come
Chains be broken
Lives be healed
Eyes be opened
Christ is revealed

Thoughts on Slavery

As for these people's opinions....
- The man on the top left--"Well, I'm against that."
- The man on the bottom left (pardon his 'French')--"That's bulls--t"
- The couple--"Well, I obviously don't approve of anything with slave trade."
- The man on top right--"I wasn't aware that Hershey's did that...capitalist."
- Charles--"I'm a Democrat. I do not shop at Wal-Mart because they are products from slave labor entities. I do not eat chocolate."
During crit yesterday, one of my professors commented on how I could have taken the picture first and then asked their thoughts. I want to continue going into Chicago and asking people, and I'm going to try to remember to take their picture first. And I have to remember to be more assertive of moving the subject so they are in a better composition and lighting situation. Truthfully, I was so nervous and out of my comfort zone on Saturday, that it was hard to remember.
Did I mention I got lost for about an hour?

Charles
I didn't ask this guy his name, but I'll call him Charles. Well I asked Charles if he knew that Hershey's employs slave labor. He said he didn't and that he didn't actually eat chocolate. His father was a WW2 veteran and much of what they ate was stale crackers and bitter chocolate, so growing up they weren't allowed to eat chocolate.I do not shop at Wal-Mart because they are products from slave-labor entities. I do not eat chocolate.

1. You don't know how to plot a geometrical equation, but by golly you know what gerunds, infinitives, and participles are and can differentiate between them on sight.
2. You ever diagrammed sentences with David Brainerd as the subject.
3. You watched missionary movies for a treat.
4. You still got star stickers to put on your chart even in high school.
5. You've looked back on a Check-up.
6. You ever got paddled in your church's sanctuary.
7. The highlight of your year was Convention, especially Internationals.
8. You couldn't stand Ace or Christi because they were too perfect, couldn't believe Pudge and Becky ended up getting married, and secretly admired Ronnie and Susie because you thought they were cool.
9. Two words: Wisdom Pages.
10. You knew more than your supervisors and monitors by the time you were in sixth grade.
11. You got hand cramps from writing the same word a gazillion times throughout the PACE in Word Building/Etymology.
12. You know what "'Baa Baa' said Ba Ba" means.
13. The American flag means to you, not "I'm proud of my country" or "I support the troops," but "I need to score."

15. You know what A, C, and E privileges are.
16. You watched a video of frog dissection rather than doing it yourself. Heck yes!

18. You know what I mean when I say "six inch rule."
19. You make goal charts instead of shopping lists, and it gives you a high to cross each item off diagonally, bottom left to top right.
20. You've worked in an office since you were in kindergarten.
21. Stolen a score key and felt like you owned the golden ticket.
22. Carried a pencil tip to the scoring station

Slavery still exists
I just don't even know where to start. I mean, I knew there are still slaves in the world. I guess I just pushed it to the back of my mind. How could I do such a thing?! God's children are being whipped and punished, just so I can buy cheap things. They work for free so I can have a bar of Hershey's chocolate. (I am starting a Death by Chocolate Portrait project--stay tuned.) It isn't okay to just sit back while millions are people are enslaved around the world. There are more slaves now than there ever has been. There are child soldiers, people forced into prostitution and countless other kinds of traffiking. It is time to stand up and fight against this! As Christians, we should not be able to stand for this. It is time to fight back. You can do many things by even just staying at home. you don't have to travel the world to make a difference.

You've Got Mail
I finally saw all of You've Got Mail. Such a great movie. It sounds cliche, but they don't make good movies like that anymore. No cursing, no inappropriate scenes or innuendos. Their relationship started out as a friendship....well actually more of a hate relationship that eventually turned into a friendship :) Anyway....I want to be more like Meg Ryan's character. She is so fun and quirky. Besides that, when she said mean things she always genuinely apologized right after. She apologized to the man who ran her small corner bookstore out of business. I should be better than that. I shouldn't say hurtful things.

Sacred Singleness

Singleness is the incredible opportunity to be fully consecrated in body and spirit to Jesus Christ alone--to be undistracted by any other romance and free to be consumed by Him.

Bam!
Dear Self
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
::Psalm 139:13-18, 23::
